Sr. Mary Dolores, Passionist Nun – RIP

srmarydoloresripblogsept2015Dear Friends in Christ,

Yesterday, Tuesday, September 8, Our Lord suddenly returned for our Sr. Mary Dolores, to take her to Himself.  She was suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s disease, but the doctor thinks it was a heart attack that took her so suddenly.

Sister was named after Our Lady of Sorrows (Dolors) and died on the day when our community begins our annual Septenary – 7 days of prayer in preparation for the Passionist solemnity of Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15, the day after the Solemnity of the Triumph of the Cross on September 14.  Her death at this time is a poignant reminder to us that in Jesus our sufferings are redemptive and that He has given us victory over death.

Please pray for the repose of her soul, as well as for all of us, her sisters in Christ.  Thank you very much.

The funeral Mass will be on Sat, Sept 12 at 10 a.m. (Central), with Bishop Medley presiding.

The Visitation will be Friday 3-7 p.m. with prayers at 6 p.m.

For those of you who live close enough to join us for the Mass, we would certainly welcome your presence.

Sincerely in JXP,

Mother Catherine Marie and the Passionist Nuns

  1. Dear Sisters, Just read in the Owensboro paper online about the death of Sr. Mary Dolores, C.P. St. John’s picnic is tomorrow. Will not be able to attend her funeral. I will remember her in my Masses this weekend and will offer a Mass for her soon. It was a great joy to celebrate with her Golden Jubilee a couple of years ago. Her smile was a great mirror of the joy the Lord blessed her with during her life with Him. God bless you all. Fr. Bruce Fogle

  2. Dear Sisters,
I’m so sorry for your beloved Sr. Mary Dolores. She indeed was so lovable & had a Presence about her of God dwelling within. I’ve experienced that with each of you. I loved when I was able to see her & speak with her. She would always remember & ask about Katie & her cats ;). She will be deeply missed & you, her family & true Sisters in Christ, know that much more than I. My prayers & heart are with you all at this time…& I thank God for the beautiful gift of her. May you feel His loving Presence & Peace always.
    Much Love,
    Stacy

  3. Many prayers & sincere sympathy are with all of you in this time of sorrow. Saying “goodbye” is never easy, but what a grace-filled day for Sister to be called home! Our OCDS community is the “Mater Dolorosa” community & we share your feastdays; will ask my fellow OCDS to keep you in prayer during these days also. God be with you!

  4. Rest in Peace, dear Sister. Sad, yes, but how amazing to think…she is with Him now! I promise to fast on the day of Sister’s funeral.

  5. Please accept my sincere sympathy in the loss of Sister Mary Dolores. You will miss her but gain comfort knowing she has gone to her eternal reward. Will pray for Sister and the community.

We'd love to hear from you...
